Artist's Statement

About the Dandelions:

Growing up, dandelions were always my favorite flower. I was dismayed when someone told me they weren't flowers, but weeds. Eventually, I learned to trust my own judgement and appreciate their beauty regardless of how others labeled them. I found it fascinating how beautiful these lowly weeds looked when one views them from a different or unusual perspective. I think there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Mike spent close to 20 years as a software developer before joining the faculty at Lorain County Community College. He teaches Computer and Information Systems, specializing in the Web Development Curriculum. His interest in web development lead him to explore digital photography, initially from a technical perspective, then as a means for artistic expression. Mike says, "Photography has increased my awareness of the beauty of this world, and more specifically, of my immediate surroundings.
