100

100 seagulls wait in a factory lot

for the men to come.

Northwind blows

off of Lake Erie

across the tracks.

100s of leaves

blown mad.

The gulls lean in.

Thunderheads gather over the islands.

There is lightning in the distance.

The gulls remain still inside locked gates.

Hundreds of cars have become history.

Hundreds of men are never coming back.

In autumn gusts

100 seagulls squint

as leaves and jobs

blow away.
