 Black River is swollen beyond flood stage

bouncing ice like cubes in a glass.

He suggested that I record weather reports

just in case they mention our little town.

I decided to drive over bridges instead,

an attempt to catch tragedy firsthand.

Everywhere business as usual,

and everywhere an angry river.
