Only A Kiss
(fractured fairy tale)

I was flawless,
As immaculate as could be,
swimming carefree in my pond
Until you sought to change the appearance of me.
You mesmerized me with your glare.
I could not resist.
I gave into your kiss.
My heart dropped with despair.
Because my breath-taking green body
was no longer there.
I became a human and
now a cross to bear.
I long for my amphibious friends
Who loved me for me.
I wish I could play the night away
In the pond under that hemlock tree,
Instead, I'm paying bills, working 9-5 and
not nearly as handsome as you said I'd be.
Look at what love did to me.
