“marc’s deer”

inspired by franz marc’s painting “deer in the forest”

1.

through the night

day night

chaos night

in a deconstructed wood of white green trees

a sparrow navigates the red yellow

blue yellow

purple of the sky.

2.

the deer stood surmising how to cross through the forest on a day

night

day such as this when the sky’s purple red

pink yellow

red could easily sweep him off nature’s canvas.

quickly clop hoof beats into the green dark green yellow dirt of the earth’s way home.

3.

a family crouches in a glade

the damp dark

green saves them from the touch of

the night’s red purples.

grasses house the deer in the

forests green as they drink its sweet pink red yellow

pink grasses for nourishment

nestling into each other until

the lost comes home.

4.

rounding his back

he flickers

his ears

in the green reds of the sky.

5.

the bird’s feathered white blues

flutter into the swirl sheltering

a voice on darkening wings
